Verisec, the IT company behind Freja eID Plus – the only mobile eID approved by the government for the quality mark “Svensk e-legitimation” – today applied to the digital management authority (DIGG) to notify the company’s national eID solution as a Swedish eID within eIDAS.
The EU Regulation eIDAS has been added to facilitate digital affairs between Member States, thus contributing to “digital first” for authorities. As of September 29, 2018, it is mandatory for public authorities to allow login with foreign eIDs. Each country has the opportunity, but is not obligated to, together with its eID-providers choose which e-IDs the country will register according to eIDAS in order to enable login to other countries digital services. A number of other countries in Europe have chosen to publish national ID solutions for use within eIDAS. Sweden has, so far, not been represented.
Freja eID+ is Sweden’s first, and so far, only mobile eID approved for the quality mark “Svensk e-legitimation”. Freja eID+ is also approved for “Valfrihetssystem 2017”, which includes the certification service and fulfilment of technical specifications in relation to Sweden Connect – the public identity federation for strong authentication. In practice, this means that there are no technical barriers to connection to the eIDAS node in Sweden Connect, since it seems safe to assume that Freja eID+ also works in relation to Swedish citizens logging on to foreign authorities within the framework of eIDAS.

That no Swedish e-ID is represented for use within eIDAS is detrimental to Swedish citizens and for Sweden’s credibility in the ongoing work within eIDAS and digitization within the EU.”
