Freja Is an International e-ID

Manage users from 167 countries with an e-ID just as smoothly as with Swedes.

Freja is the only government-approved e-ID at trust level 3 (LOA3) for users without a Swedish personal identity number.

Passports Are the Key

By basing the registration in Freja on biometric passports, we can issue a government-approved eID.

No Personal Identity Number Needed

Earlier, an e-ID could only be issued to users with a Swedish personal identity number. With Freja, that is not the case.

UPI – a Global Personal Identity Number

All users get a UPI (Universal Personal Identifier) in Freja.

This solves the problem of people not having a personal identity number and allows them to reuse their e-ID across different services.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is the same process as for a Swede registering with their passport. The user downloads the app, scans their passport with NFC and takes a selfie and does a liveness check. Normally it takes 5-10 minutes. During nights and weekends verification may take longer.
UPI stands for Unique Personal Identifier. It is a new attribute introduced in Freja so that you can identify users who do not have a personal identity number or coordination number. This number will also be available to the user so that they can share it with the services that need it.
UPI consists of 14 digits and is written in three groups according to the following standard xxxx-xxxxxx-xxxx. This is so that you can also enter the UPI over a push-button telephone. When you as a supplier are to show the UPI to a customer (website/app/paper), it should always be written in the format 4-6-4 and with a minus as a separator.
Yes, the user will get the same UPI provided that they use the same passport. The idea is that it will be this ID number in Freja throughout the entire lifecycle.
Yes, the OrgID works just as well with international e-ID. In OrgID you can do much more with data and attribute management, for example, manage permissions and organisation-specific identifiers.
We can handle a verified coordination number in Freja and can therefore send it as an attribute, if you handle coordination numbers in your systems. Just like users with personal identification numbers that are in SPAR, the e-ID that these users are issued is Freja+.
Initially, Freja could only be issued on LOA3 for those who had a Swedish personal identity number and were in SPAR. This level was then called Freja+.Later, verified coordination numbers were added to LOA3 and now Freja can be issued on LOA3 to anyone who has a valid biometric passport from one of the 167 countries. The trust level for Freja+ and the international e-ID is the same, the difference is that those who have Freja+ are also in SPAR.

Yes, but as Freja’s process looks for registration with biometric passports, you get LOA3 directly without having to first obtain an e-ID on LOA2. The reason why LOA2 is still listed in the table is to clarify that the government approval covers both LOA2 and LOA3.
